Rowan Schaberg

Bio

Rowan Schaberg is a freelance multimedia sports journalist passionate about telling impactful stories across mediums. She currently holds multiple roles within the sports industry:

- Overtime - Digital Content Assistant, supporting the social media team by organizing footage and selecting clips for Overtime's platforms. 

- She's Got Time - Communications Specialist, designing biweekly newsletters and articles for the organization, which connects and uplifts women in sports.

- The IX Basketball - Reporter covering NCAA and WNBA basketball and managing the Transfer Portal Tracker

- Circling Seattle Sports - Providing written, video, and photo content of the Seattle Storm and University of Washington women's basketball teams; recurring role as a host of the "Seattle Storm Coffee Table" and "Husky Women's Hoops Show" podcasts. 

- MADE Hoops - Contributing Writer, reporting Pacific Northwest and Denver metro area high school basketball and recruiting. 

 

With experience spanning written, photo, video, and audio storytelling, Rowan thrives in blending creativity with accuracy. She’s worked on everything from feature profiles and breaking news to podcast production, social content, and internal communications.

A Seattle native, Rowan grew up attending WNBA games and has long been dedicated to elevating women’s sports. After a basketball injury in high school shifted her path from playing to covering the game, she began developing her craft as a storyteller. She earned her degree in Journalism and Media Communication with a minor in Music, Stage, and Sports Production from Colorado State University, graduating in three years.

Her background also includes creative video production as a Media Specialist for Colorado State Athletics, where she shot, edited, and produced video content across 13 Division I programs. View Rowan's video work here.

Previously, Rowan served as the Seattle Storm Beat Reporter for The IX Basketball (formerly The Next). She has also previously worked as a freelance writer for SB Nation and the Atlanta Dream. 
 

When she’s not reporting or editing, you can usually find Rowan exploring new walking trails with her dog, Goose.

Philosophy

Rowan's goal is to use journalism to highlight different athletes, whether it be in the form of a docu-series, profile piece, interview, or highlight reel. She believes that giving fans a behind-the-scenes look into the lives and experiences of female athletes is the key to the progression of women’s sports. 

​

Education

Rowan earned her Bachelor's degree in 2024 from Colorado State University in Journalism and Media Communications, with a minor in Music, Stage, and Sports Production.

Rowan graduated from Holy Names Academy in Seattle, WA, in 2021 with a 3.9 GPA and 4 varsity letters.

Previous Employment Highlights

During high school, she served 3 years as the Head Manager for the Holy Names Varsity girl's basketball team.

Rowan's freshman year of high school, she began as an assistant coach for her former AAU team, Seattle Youth Recreation Foundation, the team for which she played for 8 years. She continued helping her former coach, Alfred Love, throughout high school by coaching girl's ages 7-14. 

She also was a 3 year attendee and 2 year intern for Team Awesome Basketball Leadership Academy, a summer camp that which focuses on empowering female athletes through leadership. 

Schaberg's senior year of high school, she began refereeing with the Pacific Northwest Basketball Officials Association
